What is the purpose of the Fresno County Airport Land Use Commission (ALUC)?

The ALUC is in existence to protect the public health, safety and welfare by ensuring that orderly development, and prevention of excessive noise and safety hazards around public use airports is followed in accordance to state and local laws. More information on the State Aeronautics Act can be obtained here: California Laws Related to Land Use Planning

The California Airport Land use Handbook has recently been updated Caltrans 2011 Handbook

ALUCs prepare Compatibility Land Use Plans (CLUP, also known as Airport Land Use Compatibility Plans or ALUCP) to ensure that county and city plans (general, specific and other) are consistent with the CLUP or ALUCP. The following are the most recently adopted CLUPs for public airports specific to Fresno County:

Airport Influence Area , and noise and safety maps can be viewed in these links:

ALUCs establish the policies on land uses around the airport, ensuring they are compatible with airport operations. This is done on an advisory basis. ALUCs also evaluate the compatibility of proposed local agency land use policy actions with the relevant provisions in the CLUP. ALUC’s also review individual development projects to ensure they are within the noise and safety standards in accordance with state laws and the CLUP within the area of influence of the airport the project is located in.

A project review form must be submitted to determine whether the project must be reviewed by the Fresno County ALUC, the review form can be obtained here: Fresno County ALUC Project Review Form
